Artist Statement
I concentrate on travel impressions in black and white, with the intent of evoking a feeling of the place as a remembered dream. The sculptural qualities of black and white images imprint more as memories than as documentation of a specific place and time. All images originate with black and white silver gelatin, but I often employ toning to further evoke this sense of dreams of imagination.
The series’ on Italy and Ireland were exhibited in 2009 in Clues to Identity, at the International Center of Photography Education Gallery. David Brickman of Get Visual observes, “The carefully modulated tones of wet-processed silver printing take this work well out of the realm of the tourist snapshot, as does Swidorski’s receptive, deceptively quiet eye for a meaningful scene.” I am currently studying under Chuck Kelton at the International Center for Photography School in New York City. |
